Transfer switch & load management highlights

200 Amp Service Rated Transfer Switch (available) –

Manages up to four air-conditioner loads without extra hardware and up to eight additional large 240 VAC loads when combined with SMMs. It is designed for service equipment rating, fast switching, and supports both copper and aluminum conductors.

Installation, fuel & site notes

Professional, licensed installation is required. Horizon handles permits, site prep, transfer switch wiring, fuel line sizing, and final inspection as part of a turnkey service.

Fuel pressures required at inlet

NG 3.5–7 in water column (0.87–1.74 kPa); LP 10–12 in water column (2.49–2.99 kPa). Fuel piping must be sized for full load.

Cold-weather options

Such as battery pad warmers and oil warmers are recommended in climates that regularly drop below 0 °F.

Environmental derating

Expect power to decrease with altitude and temperature (≈3.5% per 1,000 ft and ≈1% per 10°F above 60°F). Plan accordingly.

Is the 26 kW generator suitable for whole-home backup?
Yes, the 26 kW (LP) / 22.5 kW (NG) model is built to power large single-family homes and high-demand systems, including multiple HVAC units. Horizon performs a full load calculation to confirm exact coverage and recommend SMMs or transfer switch sizing.
This generator runs on natural gas or propane. Fuel pipe must be sized for full load; required inlet pressure is NG 3.5–7 in WC and LP 10–12 in WC. Horizon verifies fuel supply and installs to code.
At normal load, expect approximately 67 dB(A) at 23 feet; Quiet-Test™ exercise mode lowers sound to about 57 dB(A). Proper siting and enclosure placement further reduce perceived noise to neighbors.
For whole-house service, a 200 A service-rated transfer switch is recommended. If you prefer load-managed solutions, a Smart Switch plus SMMs can control large A/C and heavy loads efficiently without oversizing the generator.

Annual service is recommended; Generac specifies regular oil/filter changes, battery checks and system testing. Using Horizon’s scheduled maintenance preserves warranty coverage and keeps the system ready for emergencies.
